About Canvas Giclee Printing

The Giclee printing (pronounced "ghee-clay") process was born in the early 1990's.  These early machines had been developed for digital graphic proofing but it had not occurred to the manufacturer that it's equipment would be adopted by artists as a digital method of fine art printing.

A giclée is a high resolution digital print and is a recognized fine art print category like lithographs and serigraphs.  Giclée is widely considered the world's best technique for reproducing original artwork and for printing digitally created art and photography.  ASI uses the highest quality 100 year pigmented inks to assure the archivability of your reproductions.

The advantage of a giclée reproduction printed on canvas is that it looks and feels like original art. Giclee printing has many advantages over other printmaking methods. For example, each piece is individually produced allowing you to order one at a time if desired. You can order prints as needed without the large up-front costs and storage problems that you get with offset lithography. This allows you to test the image without making a large financial commitment. Artists can build inventory slowly over time in response to the market.
